Early morning blog maintenance... |
I never realized how much work running my very own blog would be until I had actually tried it. I have been writing blog posts for over a year but have never actually had to deal with the day to day maintenance of a website until now.
I originally began writing on a sports website called SB Nation, a site where literally anyone could post an article about sports. As a huge Detroit sports fan I loved writing about my favorite teams and was fairly successful at it. A few weeks after I started posting articles on SB I received an email from the owner of a website called PoweRanks.
PoweRanks was a site which featured content about movies, television, music, lifestyle, and sports. They had a small staff of regular writers and a few other people who would contribute occasionally. Amazingly, they wanted me to join their writing staff! I worked at PoweRanks for several months, contributing one sports article a week, before the site sadly closed down.
After that I went back to post intermittently on the SB Nation sites before I finally decided to start my own sports blog on a blog hosting website called Sports Blog. I called it Welcome To Detroit, a reference to my favorite sports teams from Detroit as well as one of my favorite Eminem songs. The blog was mildly successful, I would sometimes get a few hundred page views over the course of a month, but I started to feel constricted by having a sports-only blog. There were a lot of other things I wanted to write about too - pets, cooking, etc... - which simply didn't fit in to my blog.
That was when I decided to start this blog, Girlz Best Friend, a lifestyle blog where I could vary the content a little bit more. It's been so much fun so far but a lot of work too! I've found myself learning about color schemes, branding, basic HTML, and widgets as I've tried to make Girlz Best Friend as beautiful and reader-friendly as possible.
I hope I've been successful so far, and that you enjoy your experience here at Girlz Best Friend! I still have some glitches to work out but I've managed to get the site up and running and start posting fun content every day. It's been a wonderful experience and I've learned a lot already. I hope you have half as much fun here as I have been having starting my very own blog.
