It's Friday so here's your newest installment of TGIF: 5 Things To Be Thankful For This Friday!

1. Herbal salves and beauty products

 I love making homemade beauty products almost as much as I like cooking. It's the perfect time of year for harvesting fresh herbs so I've been really busy making some herbal lotions, facial moisturizers, and lip glosses. I'll be posting a few of the recipes I used to make some of my favorite products in the coming weeks!

2. Straw hats

I recently discovered the perfect solution to the blazing hot summer sun which usually shines on my yard in the mornings. I found a nice straw hat in a closet which I hadn't worn in years. It has a cute little flower print hat band and a nice wide brim. I've started wearing the hat during my morning coop and yard chores and it's perfect for keeping the bright sun off my face.

3. Bete Noire

Bete Noire is a French chocolate cake which is made without flour. It's name means Black Beast in French and Bete Noire is also one of the richest and easiest cakes to make. If you'd like to try making your own here's a delicious recipe. I put a white chocolate glaze on top of mine but it can also be topped with dark chocolate, whipping cream, or just powdered sugar.

4. Sunflowers

I plant sunflowers in my garden and in pots on my deck every summer. They're very cheerful and colorful and they bloom profusely through the entire season. It's almost like growing a little piece of the sun in my own garden.

5. Colorful shoes

I have a little bit of an obsession with shoes... Whenever I'm browsing in a store I always gravitate right towards the shoe department. Of course I rarely buy anything but looking at shoes is almost as good as wearing them myself. My favorite kinds of shoes are colorful ones, especially sandals. They're the perfect addition to every summer outfit, dressing up jeans and a tee and making a cute skirt look fun and flirty.
